Terrible experience, would never return. We ordered 3 dishes. One being Chef's Special Deep Fried Whole Flounder with Spicy Salt and Pepper $23.80. Way Chef spring MSG is shocking us. I asked the waitress this is how they served it and she’s say yes. I questioning again with this much of MSG and she’s strongly reply Yes. And walk off to the kitchen, back to the front desk and starting mumbling with other co-worker while looking as us.
If you looks closer in the photo, I tried to brush it off but still it left so much on the top. Food, service, Atmosphere are not worth a star.
Have been there a few time before. The quality of food has gone downhill while the price has gone up.
Food was 3-4/5 before. But now is too salty and full of MSG. When I ordered salt and pepper king prawns, it came with few pieces of pork as well.
Will not come back until they change.
Well executed Cantonese food. I'm no expert on the difference between nuances of food from GuangZhou versus Hong Kong (I assume this place is HK based on the tea coffee and baked pasta on the menu) but I do know I enjoyed it. Take the mince pork cake with salted fish for example, it's not quite mince pork as it is chopped pork with a light airy texture, which you'll only get if you chopped it a million times with cleavers instead of chucking it into a blender, good texture, strong pork flavour, nice seasoning from the salted fish topping, a must-have dish here due to the rare execution at this level in Sydney. And then the sizzling tofu that comes out on hot cast-iron, a nice browning of the egg that lands on its surface, good sear of the tofu medallions- if there's a tofu dish a meat lover might enjoy, this one's pretty good imho. Seafood chow mein was solid, using decent prawns for once unlike some Sydney restaurants. Glutinous fried rice is pretty solid too. The only let down for me on the table is the hk tea/coffee mix where personally I pick up too much artificial evaporated milk flavour, I'm not sure if it is meant to be that way or they're just not great at it so I'm not marking down for it. Service is pretty decent, though it probably helps if you speak cantonese so you can ask about the nuances of the dish and they seem eager to help tell you about what you're ordering proactively. Overall, one of the better standards of this type of food in Sydney
Parking can be a pain out front but on the back side across the road is a council car park with at least 1p. You can then walk through their back entrance pass the kitchen and toilets, if you don't mind that back alley walk, or you can walk the long way around from carpark to front of shop if minor defects might make you uneasy.
Recently moved to the area and tried this place as my first local meal. Food is well presented, taste good and quite affordable. Service is friendly and fast. Will definately go back.
Slightly pricey but def happy tummies all round. Do the recommended Tofu on hot plate, beef w bitter melon and salted fish, mince w eggplant!
Affordable set rice ! The only expensive thing here was the hotplate tofu.. but taste amazing! Everything here is not salty. So if you luv less salty food i bet u love it here. Cause my parents love it
The portion for the afternoon tea set is so small and compare to other hk style cafe in sydney , it’s expensive. And the toast was over cooked and dry. The egg sandwich was like homemade more than a hk styled cafe. Basically overpriced for a cafe but staff was friendly.
Kitchen seems cooking the same dish differently now.
Beef with scrambled eggs on rice were having some SLIME on top of rice.
Really disgusting.
Fried chicken wings were not fresh either
